RUBBER SKULLS is the musical moniker of Jonathan Riedel and his creative collaborators. Riedel, a professional dancer, choreographer, artistic director, and university professor, began writing and recording music in 2017. He released Rubber Skulls’ debut album, World Run Red, in 2018, its follow-up, World Burned Black in 2020, and World Burn Bright, in 2022...completing what he calls his “Divine Comedy” of post-punk music. His sound can best be described as a cross between Trent Reznor and Kate Bush, with clear nods to Bowie and Prince. His unique voice, lyrics, and songwriting are highly personal and deeply expressive. He taps into all the virility and emotional pomp of an angry young man while bringing to the table his life-experience, spirituality, issues of fatherhood, queerness, storytelling and grand conceptual arcs. In 2021, Riedel created a one-person musical, Jackson Crash, based on the music and story of World Run Red, and premiered it in NYC to wild acclaim - (jacksoncrash.com).
